LittleBigPlanet Karting is a video game which involves kart racing. It is made by Media Molecule and United Front Games, the creators of ModNation Racers. The game was released exclusively for the PlayStation 3 and was scheduled for a fall 2012 release date. It is a full title release rather than a minor spin-off and uses an entirely new game engine. This considered Media Molecule's last LBP game.

Development

LittleBigPlanet Karting was confirmed by Sony on March 22, 2012. In May 2012, Design Director William Ho announced the studio had no plans to release a PlayStation Vita version of the game.

Gameplay

LittleBigPlanet Karting is a racing game in which players race against a variety of human or computer controlled opponents across various tracks, with the goal to come in first place. Similar to other action kart-racing games, players can pick up weapons and items while racing that grant special abilities. Some of these powerups include homing projectiles, EMPs, grenades, and more. The game will also feature the trademark grapple mechanic featured in previous games.

The game features many of the traditional features associated with LittleBigPlanet. Various gadgets allow players to "bounce, grapple or grab" their way through race tracks. Players can play single-player or race against their friends in online multiplayer or local split-screen mode. The game also features race challenges.

Gameplay modes include Battle Mode, Waypoint Races, Treasure Hunts, Score Attacks, Free Roams and more.

Track Creation

The official sites describes track creation features as follows:

LittleBigPlanet Karting features a simple, powerful and familiar set of Create tools that easily allow you to build your own tracks and arenas, design unique power-ups or customize your karts.

Every single creation in LittleBigPlanet Karting will be published on LBP.me, where youā€™ll find dedicated pages for each track and creator. This makes it super easy to share your creations with the wider world, not to mention find cool things to play!

Reception

LittleBigPlanet Karting is the series' lowest rated game, but the reviews were positive. People loved the mix of LittleBigPlanet and a racing game, however, people criticized that "it didn't have a lasting appeal". Still, the game was thought of as creative and fun like all the other games.
