LittleBigPlanet 3 is the third main video game in the LittleBigPlanet series developed by Sumo Digital (a departure from the original developer Media Molecule) and to be published by Sony Computer Entertainment for the PlayStation 4 and 3 consoles. With the official release date marked for November 18th, 2014, the game is planned to include a variety of new features and additions and a new engine that improves the quality of levels on the PlayStation 4 version. It was officially announced at the E3 press conference on June 9th, 2014,[1] where a trailer and a demo were previewed.[2][3]

Stephen Fry has been confirmed to return as the narrator.

Features

Please note that most of this is under speculation and may or may not be in the final release. These were evident in gameplay videos and/or explained on the official website.

New Characters

File:Toggle.jpg

Big Toggle and small Toggle.

Initially revealed at E3, Sackboy would be accompanied by three new characters; OddSock, Toggle and Swoop. Each of these characters have an ability that makes their use unique to the gameplay; in certain areas of levels, one character is required for their ability. They are not limited, however, and can be customized as much as Sackboy can (the amount of which remains the same from the game's predecessor). They also use the same facial expressions.

Playable Characters

  • Toggle gets his name from being able to "toggle" between Big Toggle, a strongman who exceeds the strength and weight of others, and Small Toggle, who can fit through smaller spaces, walk on the surface of water, and run at faster speeds.
  • OddSock is a quadruped that runs the fastest of the group and can jump from a wall. A scene from the trailer shows that OddSock can also be mounted by Sackboy, but it is unknown if Toggle could do the same.
  • Swoop is an avian sackthing that can fly, glide, and carry objects around with his feet.

ā€‹Non-Playable Characters

  • Newton - Not much is known about Newton except for his appearance, and the fact that he will be the main antagonist in the story. He is voiced by Hugh Laurie.
  • Unnamed 50s themed story character -  Nothing is known except for his appearance.
    Lbpwhat

60s themed story character from Manglewood.

In addition, Sackboy has a unique ability of his own; to climb materials that allow him to do so.

Creator Curators and Themes

Unlike Little Big Planet 1, which had 8 Creators, and Little Big Planet 2, which had 6, Little Big Planet 3 Appears to only have 4. Looking at footage from the game's beta, you can see 4 worlds on the story moon. In each world in the 3rd game, there is about 12 levels. So in the end, it is estimated that LBP3 will have about 50 levels, same as the other games. 2 worlds have themes and interactive music usable in the beta. Here's the list of themes and articles that list their possible creators:

The names of any of these creators are not confirmed, nor what world they match. Only 3 have been shown, so we are still waiting to see one. The missing creator could possibly the main antagonist, Newton, but there is no evidence to support that. There is a possibility that there are more creators/worlds, but from what has been seen, it is unlikely.

The Pumpinator

The Pumpinator is a new power-up that either shoots gusts of wind, or inhales air.

A wrench power-up (which is seen for about 2 seconds in trailer) is used to move and place certain objects while in play mode. When equipped it looks like a hard hat.

Changes from the previous games

Editors: Before editing this list, please make sure what you've added wasn't commented out. The copyeditor may have became confused by the entry for lack of structure or clear message.[4]
  • The space of the level has greatly increased from three layers (which was evident in all the normal games except for Karting and LBP PSP.) to sixteen.[5]
  • Objects can freely and more smoothly move through these layers.
  • However, it appears movement between layers without the help of Layer Launchers is still limited to only being move one space in/out automatically and L3(Down) + X
  • The separate Audio Objects from LittleBigPlanet 2 are combined into a single Audio Object in LittleBigPlanet 3.
  • Sackboy shows more vibrant animations such as spinning around and putting his hands on his hips.
  • This is just one example of idle animations- Toggle will additionally pat his stomach. It is unknown if Oddsock and Swoop would have any idle animations.
  • In addition to animations, Sackboy can now express new emotions. One demonstrated was a nervous smile. Another seen was a Sackperson sticking it's toungue out with a neutral expression.
  • Also changing the emotion displays different idle animations
  • There are various new costumes, stickers, decorations, objects, and materials. The costumes are not only limited to Sackboy.
  • The Popit has been redesigned with a new world and trophy icon.
  • An object has been shown to allow zero gravity that is more like water. This could be a tweak to the gravity option, however.
  • Water is now a material.

New Tools

Over 70 new tools are introduced in LittleBigPlanet 3, and all of the tools in the game's predecessors are also included.

Adventure Crater

Adventure Crater

The Adventure Crater is the one with the hexagon shape.

The Adventure Crater is a new feature of My Moon. It allows you to create a series of levels with enhanced features.

  • The Organisertron is a new logic tool that will track quests that you create. Quest tweakers allow you to display your quest to players.
  • The Sack Pocket allows you to keep power-ups without throwing them out when equipping another one.

Logic Tools

  • The Broadcasting Microchip is an upgraded Microchip that is able to transmit anything you place on it to multiple objects that you select.
  • The Wave Generator Logic component will output an analog signal which oscillates from +1.00 to -1.00, at a speed and frequency you control.
  • As well as the Memoriser, there is a new Object Saver Logic component which will save the state of any object itā€™s placed upon.
  • The Force Microchip can attract / repel objects (including characters, players, and tagged objects) which can be controlled by the creator.

Gameplay Tools

  • The Power-Up Creator allows players to make custom powerups. Some of the predecessor's tools have been optimized.
    • A Power-Up Handle seems to be required, as it is the base of the power-up that is held, and features many accessories, like a drill.
  • Layer Launchers resemble Bounce Pads in a way that it moves the player in and out of layers.
  • Bendy Rails, a zipline like tool that smoothly brings you between layers, it also includes an invisibility option.
  • Character Change Gates allow the changing of characters in levels.
  • A Velociportal is also included which will obviously teleport players through levels, without using a Wormhole.
  • Collectibles are a form of currency used to buy costumes.
  • The ability to change the player's movement is now possible; level designers can affect the players ability to jump and run, add gadgets to them, even save them as new characters. This is similar to the customizability of Sackbots.
  • A Slide tool that will move you from the background to the foreground.
