Water as shown in the Pirates of the Caribbean Level kit

Water is a type of fluid that can appear in a level. On August 18, 2009, it was announced that water would be coming to LittleBigPlanet as part of a future downloadable kit, which turned out to be The Pirates of the Caribbean Level Kit. The announcement was accompanied by a video on the Media Molecule website. In LittleBigPlanet 2 and onward, including LittleBigPlanet PS Vita, water is available by default, for free, without purchasing the DLC kit.

All of the playable characters can swim in water for 30 seconds until they run out of breath and die. Sackboy can use a Scuba Enhancement to stay underwater for an unlimited amount of time, and any character can hit an air bubble to recover their breath fully. In LittleBigPlanet Karting, water instead acts as a hazard that resets players who touch it.

There are several tools that have been added for players to control the water; the main tool works like the Global Lighting object, and players are able to change the height, movement, color, particles, and rising time of the water. A gadget can be used to reset the water level to a certain level, either instantly, or gradually.

The water takes up all space in all layers below a certain point, in a similar way as an object using the 3-D layer glitch.

Except in LittleBigPlanet 3 when specifically configured not to, Sackbots will immediately be electrocuted to death when falling in water.
